DO I NEED A REFERRAL?

Given that Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners, patients do not require a referral to attend an initial appointment.  Osteopaths are trained to perform standard medical examinations of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems.

Osteopathy has grown as a mainstream health service in Australia and is covered by most private health funds and by Medicare, on some occasions. GP's can refer to Osteopaths under the Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Program where low income earning patients requiring support for chronic pain, can apply for subsidised treatment.  Please contact our clinic or your GP to discuss further.

Osteopaths are also registered providers for Workers’ Compensation schemes, Motor Accident Insurers Board (MAIB) and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).

Osteopaths can refer for spinal X-rays when required.

Osteopaths believe in working as part of a greater healthcare system and will refer back to your GP or other allied health professionals where appropriate.
