Understanding Your Pain: A New Approach
Musculoskeletal pain is a common problem affecting millions worldwide. When pain lingers for more than three months, it’s considered chronic and can significantly impact your life. Unlike traditional biomedical approaches that focus on injury or damage, pain science adopts a holistic perspective, exploring the multifaceted factors that influence an individual’s pain experience.
What is Pain Science Education?
Pain science education (PSE) is about helping you understand your pain better. It's not about denying your pain, but instead exploring what pain is, the role of pain and the science behind it. The goal of PSE is to help empower you to reframe your pain in order to change and improve your pain experience. We can develop strategies unique to everyone to help manage their pain experience.
Why is Understanding Your Pain Important?
Research shows that understanding your pain can lead to:
Reduced pain intensity
Improved movement and function
Less disability
Greater confidence in managing your pain
Who Can Benefit from Pain Science Education?
Anyone experiencing chronic musculoskeletal pain can benefit from PSE. It’s a personalised approach that can be tailored to your specific situation. It is also appropriate for anyone who wants to understand more about pain regardless of their current presentation as it may also help to manage pain experiences in the future.
What to Expect in a Pain Science Education Session

Open conversations about your pain experiences
Exploring your pain in a supportive environment
Setting goals for managing your pain
Developing a personalised plan
These consultations are held in our Jimmy’s Clinic rehab space, on Monday’s only (at this stage). Please note these are not hands-on Osteopathic treatment consultations. We believe that everyone's pain experience is unique. Our goal is to empower you with knowledge and tools to manage your pain effectively.
How Does Pain Science Fit into Your Overall Care?
